Dearly beloved we are gathered here today to get through this thing called Life…
We are here today to mourn the passing of a musical Icon, a Legend.
I will forever remember what I was doing on Thursday, April 21st. My friend called me and her exact words were “This is serious”. Perplexed, I ask “What!!??” You could hear the concern in my voice. “Prince died” she exclaimed. I went deaf and numb. I don’t remember much after that.
The man. The legend. My 80’s inspiration and beyond was gone. Just like that gone. Way to soon! He was only 57 and looked 10 or more years younger. Seriously, did the man age!
It may sound dramatic (I’ve been known to be) but for me this represented a part of my childhood, so many memories, so many connections based on this man’s music and talent. So many truths inside myself that had been revealed because of his music.
This past weekend I binged watched Purple Rain and listened to all of his music. There is so much! The tears just streamed out. They were tears of sadness because it felt like a part of my childhood was gone, tears for his family and friends, and tears of sadness because such a great soul has left this Earth plane. But then there was many smiles listening to his music, remembering all the souls I’ve connected with because of his music, all the memories I’ve made and just the pure enjoyment of his music. His talent, his wit, his individuality, his rebellion, his ability to not fit into any mold, his love for the art, his ultimate shade – those are the things I celebrate and love about Prince Roger Nelson.
Although his years were short, the quality of Prince’s years were clearly abundant! In his 57 years, he:
==> sold over 100 million records worldwide
==> won 7 Grammy Awards
==> won an Academy Award
==> was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on the 1st year of his eligibility
And this is just the short list of accomplishments. Honestly, it barely scratches the surface. Not only was he a well-accomplished, but he was known to have a very generous heart towards others, as well, giving any chance he could get. Boy could he play some ball! Who would think that little
Prince at his core was a rebellious leader. He was an original and he lived his life this way. Even though he was private about his personal life, he gave us his soul. He gave us his all. Thank you Universe for sharing this soul with us not matter how short of a time time it was. My favorite ad by Chevrolet :
Yes baby, that was much to fast. Thank you Prince Roger Nelson for your music, for your fire and your rebelliousness.
Dearly beloved. We’re gathered here today to get through this thing called LIFE. How are you LIVING?
